Army strengthening
safety, defense drive

BY GILBERT BAYORAN

The Philippine Army is strengthening its integrated public safety and community defense, in coordination with local government units, in the hinterlands of Manapla, and EB  Magalona towns, and  Victorias, Silay and Talisay cities, that includes responses to disaster and calamities.

Col. Oscar Lactao, who met yesterday with Rep. Alfredo Benitez and local chief executives led by Mayor David Albert Lacson in EB Magalona, stressed the importance to detachment commanders of protecting communities in their areas, against infiltration by  lawless elements.

Fifty-one barangays in northern Negros have been classified by the military as insurgency-affected areas.

In a closed-door meeting with Army detachment commanders in the hinterlands of northern Negros, Lactao, 303rd Infantry Brigade commander reminded them to closely coordinate and help one another in protecting their areas, and extend support to the PNP in law enforcement operations.

The 12th Infantry (Cadre) Battalion has established two detachments in Brgys. San Isidro and Canlusong, EB. Magalona, that had been considered security vacuum areas for more than two years. *GPB
