Department of Social Welfare and Development workers penetrated the mountainside bringing relief goods to the Negros Oriental first district that was hit by a 6.9 magnitude earthquake.
In coordination with the Philippine Air Force headed by Lt. Col. Honasan, approximately 1,863 food packs were delivered to mountain barangays in Guihulngan such asLinantuyan, Hinakpan, Plagatasanon and Balwage during the weekend.
Of the 33 barangays in Guihulngan more than half were reached by the local Social Welfare and Services Office with their relief goods, which consisted of food packs, water, tents, sleeping mats, cooking utensils and clothing, a respite especially for those who lost everything during the earthquake.
DSWD officials said there is an urgent need to give immediate relief. especially to those families who lost their homes, livelihood and love ones and currently rely on evacuation centers for temporary relief and shelter.
It also started outlining strategies on setting up and managing evacuation centers as it gets ready to initiate debriefing to affected families in the towns of Ayungon, Tayasan, Jimalalud, La Libertad and Guihulngan City.*RG
