Husband of healer killed, too
BY ADRIAN NEMES III

The caretaker of a residence in Brgy. Pahanocoy, Bacolod City, was shot and killed by an unidentified assailant at his workplace last night about five months after his faith healer wife was found dead in a sugarcane field in Brgy. Vista Alegre in the city in October.

Teodoro Estaniel, 50, of Purok Seawall in Brgy. Punta Taytay, Bacolod and caretaker of the residence of a Filipino Overseas Worker in Purok RC Dos, Pahanocoy, died on the spot from a lone gunshot wound on his chest, City Police Director Senior Supt. Ricardo de la Paz said.

De la Paz theorized that Estaniel, who was alone when the shooting happened, was already inside the house, and just went out when he heard someone calling him but was shot at close range by the suspect who fled immediately.

A slug of a firearm of unidentified caliber and the victim’s cellular phone were recovered from the crime scene.

A resident said they heard two gunshots and also heard Estaniel asking for help, while “alias Jun-jun” claimed that he saw two bonnet wearing men on a Bajaj motorcycle parked near the residence where Estaniel works as a caretaker, days before the shooting.

Cherryl Estaniel, the victim’s daughter told AKSYON Radyo Bacolod that before her father was killed, she had been having a nightmare about him and had just been informed that her father was already dead.

Initial reports also showed that the victim had been receiving death threats before the killing.

De la Paz said they are looking into the motive in the killing of Estaniel although he did not give specific details. He added that they are also not discounting the possibility that the assailants of Estaniel are the same suspects in the killing of his wife, Lorna, on October 19.

The decomposing body of Lorna Estaniel, 45,was found in a sugarcane field in Purok Oya, Brgy. Vista Alegre, four days after she was declared missing.

Station 7 commander, Chief Insp. Levy Pangue had said that two men and a woman went to the residence of the Estaniels and asked Lorna to come with them as she has a patient waiting in Brgy. Vista Alegre.*APN
