Gov throws support to
FLUP formulation

BY JUDY F. PARTLOW & MARICAR ARANAS

Negros Oriental Governor Roel Degamo has expressed support to the Forest Land Use Plan, with technical assistance from the German government and the Department of Environment and Natural Resources.

Degamo said Thursday the flood brought by tropical storm “Sendong” should be an eye-opener to all local government units that have not established or implemented the FLUP.

He signed the memorandum of agreement with the German government represented by country director, Robert Krissler, and the DENR-7 regional technical director Dr. Isabelo Montejo, Thursday.

Degamo said the technical assistance from the German government is considered a blessing because it will enhance the FLUP and CLUP in the province.

Under the agreement, the German government will provide technical assistance through the Provincial FLUP Assistance Team , which is consists of personnel from the Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office  and the Community Environment, Natural Resources Office, Environment and Natural Resources Division  and the Provincial Planning and Development Office.

Degamo said the province is willing to give a counterpart fund in the formulation of the FLUPs, and to ensure its implementation.

He challenged the PENRO, CENRO and ENRD to review the plan of LGUs that have existing FLUPs.

The FLUP serves as a guide to local government units on how to manage and rehabilitate the forest cover in the province. It consists of recommendations on the how to deal with and strengthen communities in the area.* JFP/MA
