NORECO 1 to give
elderly 5% discount
BY MARICAR ARANAS

The Negros Oriental Electric Cooperative 1 is encouraging senior citizens to avail of the 5 percent discount in their electric bills.

Senior citizen discount will be given only to member-consumers who have a maximum consumption of 100 kilowatts and below, General Manager Juveleo Acabal of NORECO 1 said.

This is required by the where law senior citizens are entitled to certain percentage discounts in all products and services.

Member-consumers who are senior citizens are advised to present their identification cards upon payment of their electric bills.

Bais City Vice Mayor Luciano Benlota said the senior citizen’s discount should be 20 percent as in the purchase of medicines and basic commodities.

But Acabal said they are just following what is mandated by law.

Meanwhile, NORECO 1 is also offering a reward to individuals who report electric pilferage cases in their area. A reward of P 500 will be given to the informant upon confirmation of the report.

The member-consumer who reports the pilferage will also enjoy a 20 percent discount in his electric bill. They will also ensure the confidentiality of the informant for security reasons, the company said.

Acabal said they are campaigning strongly against electric pilferage because it is one of the causes of systems loss that is among the charges included in the electric bill of every member-consumer of the cooperative.*MA
