A businessman charged for illegal possession of firearms and prohibited drugs, was freed yesterday from the police jail, after posting bail of P320,000 as recommended by Himamaylan Judge Nilo Sarsaba.
Police Officer 3 John Derrick Capunong, Himamaylan PNP spokesman, said the release of businessman Jose Zulueta yesterday afternoon, was in compliance with the order of Sarsaba, who granted his motion for bail.
Zulueta, who claimed to be “Col. Martinez” from Camp Crame, was arrested after a car chase by Kabankalan policemen Sunday, at a police checkpoint in Brgy. Su-ay, Himamaylan City.
His arrest yielded two M-16 Armalite rifles with similar serial numbers, a super .38 Hi-Cap caliber pistol, a 45 caliber Colt. pistol, seven long magazines of an armalite rifle containing 210 rounds of ammunition, seven magazines of super .38 and .45 caliber pistols with 86 live bullets, and three sachets of suspected shabu.
The firearms and their ammunition, as well as the shabu, were recovered by the Himamaylan police from the Toyota Fortuner pick-up vehicle driven by Zulueta, who was trailed by the Kabankalan police, before he was intercepted in Himamaylan City.
Police investigations also showed that the documents presented by Zulueta, for the high-powered guns taken from his vehicle, were either expired, or fake.* GPB
