A Swiss national posted bail recently at a Negros Oriental trial court after learning that a warrant of arrest had been issued against him, for charges of child abuse.
Andreas Maurer, a resident of Guihulngan City, Negros Oriental, posted a bond of P80,000, Chief Insp. Errol Garchitorena, Jr. of the Guihulngan police said.
Maurer, who recently returned from a trip overseas, voluntarily surrendered to the police upon knowing he was wanted, Garchitorena said.
He was earlier charged for allegedly violating provisions of Republic Act 7610, or the “"Special Protection of Children Against Abuse, Exploitation and Discrimination Act” Garchitorena also said.
The case stems from a complaint filed that Maurer allegedly dropped a child while tossing him into the air off a dike in Guihulngan. Maurer was reportedly under the influence of intoxicating liq uor, Garchitorena added.
Judge Fe Lualhati Bustamante of the Regional Trial Court Branch 64 in Guihulngan issued the warrant for the arrest of Maurer on Oct. 18, 2011.*JFP
