City slaughterhouse gets grant
BY MARICAR ARANAS

Dumaguete City  received P550,000 recently as another grant from the Department of Agriculture for the cold storage facility at the Dumaguete Slaughterhouse.

Dumaguete Market Enterprises head, Jose Ronnie Fortin, said advice for the financial grant was received last December, but they are still complying with the documents required by the Department of Agriculture.

Fortin said once the financial grant is downloaded they can immediately start the bidding for the purchase of a cold storage machine for the slaughterhouse.

He added that at present the slaughterhouse has a cold storage facility but the refrigeration system is not working,  because it has not been replaced when it broke down about five years ago.

The cold storage machine is very important to preserve the freshness of the meat after slaughtering and before delivery.

Fortin said they plan to purchase a five-ton capacity refrigeration system  to accommodate the increasing volume of livestock placed in the cold storage..

He said they are grateful to the DA for fulfilling its promise to give an additional grant for the cold storage facility. The city government is also the recipient of a previous grant from DA that was used to construct the 2-tons capacity cold storage facility for the market’s fish section.MA*
