Negrense pugs to see action
in PLDT-ABAP Visayas leg

Local boxers from cities and towns in Negros Occidental are leaving for Negros Oriental today for the 2012 PLDT-ABAP Visayas Area Amateur Boxing Championship set on January 25 to 30 at Robinson Mall in Dumaguete City.

Heading the list of boxers from the province who will compete in the tournament are Mark Anthony Montinola, Dan Jay Nietes, Felician Santiago Jr., Joshua Yap, Aljun Oro, Jojo Bulanon and Jossu Santisteban.

Joining them are the boxing standouts from the cities of Himamaylan, Talisay, and Bago.

This tournament is part of PLDT-ABAP continuing search for boys and girls aged 15 to 18 years who may be recruited into the national training pool.

ABAP executive director Ed Picson said those who will figure prominently the tournament will not only earn a slot in the training pool, but will also have a chance in the future to represent the country in international boxing tournaments, such as the Southeast Asian Games, the Asian Games, and even in the Olympics.

Simultaneous with the tournament will be the referees and judges’ seminar that will start today and January 25.

All boxing referees and judges in the Visayas area may join the activity to upgrade their ranking and be updated on the new boxing rules.*NAB
