The Dumaguete City port RC Pier I will be rehabilitated with an allocation of P76.6 million by the Philippine Ports Authority and the Department of Transportation and Communications, a department press release said yesterday.
The amount is part of the P556 million allotment by the PPA-DOTC this year to upgrade and rehabilitate seven ports in the country, which are the Dumangas and Iloilo ports, Tabaco in Albay, Ormoc Port in Leyte, Lucena City port, Pio Duran in Albay, and the Dumaguete harbor, the press release said.
Transportation Secretary Mar Roxas said the agency hopes to generate interest among local companies to take part in the government’s effort to provide a convenient, affordable, reliable, efficient, and safe sea transport system through an open and transparent public bidding.
The DOTC had earlier set aside P93.8 million to refurbish the town ports in Corcuera, Romblon; Placer, Surigao del Norte; Bacacay, Sto. Domingo, and Pili—all in Albay; Palid, Zamboanga Sibugay; and Melgar in Dinagat Island, the press release added.*
