Bizmen want de la Paz to stay
BY ADRIAN NEMES III

Businessmen in Bacolod will oppose the relief of City Police Director Senior Supt. Ricardo de la Paz from his post, Metro Bacolod Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry president Frank Carbo said yesterday.

Text messages from an unknown source stating that De la Paz will be removed due to his alleged involvement in illegal activities, specifically in illegal gambling, continue to circulate.

“Unless he gets promoted, there is no reason for him to be relieved because a growing city like ours needs a police chief like him”, Carbon said.

He said the businessmen are satisfied with his performance and there is no reason for him to be removed as city police director.

Meanwhile, Police Regional Office-6 Director Chief Supt. Cepriano Querol had already clarified Tuesday that de la Paz will stay as Bacolod City Police Director as there is no relief order him.

Querol said he has no authority to relieve de la Paz, who is holding a third level position, because only Camp Crame can do that. But, he added, he believes there is no reason to remove de la Paz from his post.

De la Paz said he is appreciative of the trust and confidence being shown by the business sector in his leadership and assured them that the city police will continue to improve their performance.

Carbon and Crispin Chua led the distribution of the fuel coupons from the Central Negros Electric Cooperative for the Motorized Anti-Street Crime Operatives of the Bacolod police.*APN
