Driver killed, four injured

A tricycle driver died, while four students suffered injuries in a vehicular accident yesterday in Brgy. Recreo, Pontevedra, Negros Occidental, at about 7:30 a.m. yesterday, the police said.

The tricycle driven by a certain Vicente Blanza, with four minor students as passengers, was rammed by a 10-wheeler truck, in Brgy. Recreo, Pontevedra.

The cargo truck was driven by Roberto Ariston who tried to apply the brakes but it hit the rear of the tricycle. Blanza, who was thrown out from his vehicle, was run over by the truck, and died instantly.

Of the four injured students, Krishia Joy Panaligan,12, is still being treated at a hospital in Bacolod City, while the three others sustained only minor bruises, the Pontevedra police reported.

Ariston is now detained at the Pontevedra Police Station jail. * GPB
