3 CENECO directors unopposed
BY CHRYSEE SAMILLANO

Three incumbent directors of Central Negros Electric Cooperative are running unopposed at the Annual General Membership Assembly and elections Saturday that will start at 7 a.m.

The venue will be later announced by CENECO.

Arnel Lapore, Zenaida Lacson, Roberto Montelibano, Alex Coloso and Oscar Esler have filed their certificates of candidacy for membership in the CENECO Board.

But Lapore, Lacson and Montelibano, all incumbent directors of Districts II, III and VII, will run unopposed, since Coloso and Esler are not qualified.

CENECO president Lapore said the National Electrification Administration has issued a memorandum circular in 2009 requiring attendance in the AGMA as a pre-requisite for the filing of COC of candidates. This requirement was published in a local daily, he said.

Lapore said Esler called him up and informed him that he is no longer interested in pursuing a protest, and even congratulated him. “I told him that with his technical background, maybe we can discuss any inputs he has that may help CENECO,” he said.

CENECO is a consumer-centered cooperative and Lapore said they welcome bright minds outside the campus of CENECO. They need inputs from these technical people who can give suggestions to help them improve their services, he said.

If his mandate is renewed, Lapore said they will pursue a larger and wider scope of reforms especially in their system, and collection efficiency, among others.

Lapore also said they had a closed door meeting with the police Saturday on the P3.6 million hold up incident involving CENECO.

He said he has confidence in the leadership of Bacolod City Police Director Senior Supt. Ricardo de la Paz and hopes there will be developments on the case soon.*CGS
