Floods inundate
2 Sagay barangays
BY ADRIAN NEMES III

Heavy rains brought floods to two barangays in Sagay City, Negros Occidental yesterday and caused several residents to flee from their homes, Mayor Rafael Leo Cueva said.

Cueva, however, said that they were still counting the affected families in barangays Paraiso and Fabrica.

He said some of the affected residents are temporarily staying at the Eusebio Lopez Integrated School and E. Lopez Elementary school, while others opted to stay at the residences of their relatives that were not affected by the floods.moremoremore

Binalbagan Mayor Alejandro Mirasol is likely to be endorsed as the official candidate of the United Negros Alliance for the 5th district congressional seat in the June 2 special elections, although party members will decide this during a consensus meeting on March 31.

This was after Governor Alfredo Maranon Jr. revealed yesterday that Board Member Melvin Ibañez has signified his decision not to run for the position and will instead support Mirasol.

Mirasol and Ibañez had been reported to be vying for the endorsement of UNA.moremoremore

Sipalay opens eco-center
BY GILBERT BAYORAN

The 5-hectare Sipalay Eco-Center, that cost the city government only P10 million, is now operational.

The eco-center located in Sitio Can-arao, Brgy. Cabadiangan, Sipalay City, houses about a hectare of sanitary landfill, facilities for material recovery, composting and waste water treatment.

Mayor Oscar Montilla yesterday said the eco-center, which is cheaper than similar facilities in other areas of Negros island, will also accept segregated garbage for disposal from the neighboring towns of Hinobaan and Sipalay, for a fee.moremoremore
