Fuel price in Dumaguete
second highest in Visayas

BY MARICAR ARANAS

Dumaguete City is second to Tagbilaran City, Bohol, in terms of high prices of gasoline in the Visayas Region, Antonio Labios, Department of Energy Visayas Field Office director, said Wednesday at the session of the Dumaguete Sangguniang Panlungsod.

The SP is investigating the reasons for the high cost of fuel in Dumaguete City and Negros Oriental, compared to the neighboring province of Cebu.

Labios said DOE has no control over the price of fuel because of the Oil Deregulation law. What it can do is to regularly monitor pricing of fuel operators in the Visayas regions, on the disparity.

The anti-drugs operation yielded 15 small plastic sachets of suspected shabu, one matchbox of suspected dried marijuana leaves, two unsealed sachets with suspected shabu residue, seven empty transparent plastic sachets, disposable lighters, improvised tooters, tin foils, and P915 in cash, a police report said.

Farmers hit Guihulngan
LGU for ‘empty promises’

BY JUDY F. PARTLOW & JUANCHO GALLRDE

Farmers groups in Guihulngan City, Negros Oriental, decried what they called “inaction” of the city government to relocate them to safer grounds, after the earthquake that caused landslides in their barangays.

The Kaugmaon group of farmers, led by Librada Gablines and Marilou Alangilan, accused Mayor Ernesto Reyes of merely making promises, in a dialog with Gov. Roel Degamo, at the residence of Guihulngan City Councilor Alfredo Javier, Thursday.

Aside from relocating them, the group is asking the government to provide them with livelihood opportunities.
