Garden Club’s
summer outing

ivy

Whew! The scorching summer heat is so debilitating! What a relief it was to get away from the oven-like urban jungle to a cool oasis of peace and tranquility. And this is exactly what the members of the Negros Occidental Garden Club did last weekend.

We all hied off to May’s Organic Garden & Resort in Pahanocoy for our yearly outing where we all had a blast! The place is surprisingly very near downtown Bacolod. After sweating it out in the noontime traffic, my Brit group Robert Harland and Hazel Stuart, almost gave up when we got lost on the way! But all’s well that ends well and we finally arrived at this sprawling, relaxing green paradise where a refreshing breeze cooled off the summer heat. We were pleasantly surprised to find this haven of lush green plants, flowers, tall trees and inviting swimming pool just a few minutes away.

The NOGC members welcomed us warmly with tall glasses of a delicious cold fruity concoction. Our host May Uy, who owns the place with her husband Ramon Uy, soon announced that lunch was served and the famished crowd immediately dug into a truly gastronomic spread of fresh crabs, langka ensalada, organic vegetable salad freshly culled from the garden, malunggay soup, chicken adobo with pineapple, lechon and many more. There were native desserts to enjoy and the piece de resistance, a to-die-for dark chocolate cake by our president Peps Remitio, which made one think, one had died and gone to heaven!

After the sumptuous lunch, Gigi Flores emceed the games portion. What a riot that was! She asked each group to list down parts of the body beginning with the letter B.

The crowd roared with naughty laughter as each one tried to outdo each other in having the most entries. Of course, our Sampaguita group won, to the delight of the members. After the games, it was time to go home and enjoy the rest of the lazy, hazy Sunday afternoon.

I was so glad to hear that N & M Pharmacy, La Salle Avenue, is now offering chicken ham for sale. I have been looking for this since New Year. It’s so good!
