Tricycle driver killed;
another arrested for illegal firearm

A tricycle driver died in a vehicular accident Wednesday at the highway of Sitio Bagangbang, Brgy. Tiling, Cuayan, Negros Occidental, police records show.

Another tricycle driver, on the other hand, was arrested by the police at a checkpoint in La Carlota City, a day earlier, for illegal possession of firearms.

The fatality was identified as Rycel Arro, 28, who fell from the tricycle he was driving, when it was bumped by a passenger jeep driven by Rudy Galon, 37, the Cauayan police said.

Arro sustained multiple injuries and was declared dead on arrival at the Cauayan District Hospital.

Galon, a resident of Brgy. Canturay, Sipalay City, Negros Occidental, surrendered to the Kabankalan City Police Station, and was later turned over to the Cauayan Police for detention.

Meanwhile, Chief Insp. Eduardo Corpus, La Carlota police chief, identified the suspect, who was nabbed for illegal possession of firearms, as Kent Wesley Jayona, 31.

A .38 caliber revolver without serial number and five live ammunition was recovered from the tricycle of Jayona, who is now detained at the lockup cell of the La Carlota police.*GPB

6 Bacolod cops
to be awarded

Six members of the Bacolod Police Intelligence Branch and Station 2 will receive commendations for the capture of the most wanted personality in the city in Brgy. Banago on Tuesday.

Senior Supt. Ricardo de la Paz, city police director, will give the awards to Supt. Leonardo Borromeo, Intelligence Branch chief; his deputy, Insp. Mark Angelo Junco; Senior Police Officer 1 Aries Escarda, Police Officers 2 Peter Genovia and Jesser Mathew Demaisip, and Police Officer 1 Dominador Lorenzo.

The six nabbed Henry Bañez, “alias J.R. Baba”, 22, at his residence in Purok Tinagong Paraiso, Brgy. Banago, at about 5 p.m., on the strength of an arrest warrant issued by Regional Trial Court Branch 42 Judge Fernando Elumba, who denied him bail.

Bañez and his companions Joemar Agdana, 18, and Cresenciano Catague, 23, were tagged as the suspects in the rape-rob of a German national, a volunteer worker of a non-government organization, in Brgy. Banago last year.*APN

Detainee released
from city hospital

The detainee, who tried to end his life by strangulating himself using a towel in the bathroom of Bacolod Police Station 9 recently, was released from the hospital Monday, Chief Insp. Placido Gentoleo, Station 9 commander, said yesterday.

Roberto Sorilla Jr., 20, of Purok Medalla Milagrosa in Brgy. Sum-ag, Bacolod, was brought to the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology after his release from the hospital, Gentoleo said.

He added that, in the medical report, Sorilla is not mentally ill so he was remitted to the BJMP.

Police Officer 2 Eman Anacleto, case investigator, found Sorilla dangling from the window grill of the bathroom with a white towel around his neck. Anacleto said the detainee had torn the towel into four strips, knotted them, and used it to strangulate himself.
