LTO to clear airport of
colorum vehicles

BY JUANCHO GALLARDE

The Land Transportation Office in Dumaguete said it will clear the airport of colorum vans and other vehicles that are illegally operating, especially with the holding of the Philippine National Games next week.

LTO chief Roland Ramos said the Metro Dumaguete Transport Multipurpose Cooperative has been formed, under the supervision of the LTO, with 61 members and more than 50 units that can be availed of by tourists and athletes in going to various destinations in Negros Oriental.

The cooperative was tapped by the Philippine Coast Guard Auxiliary during its 28th annual convention in Dumaguete two weeks ago; and the Philippine Sports Commission, to ferry guests, visitors and athletes in the PNG from May 27 to June 3.

Ramos said the transport cooperative will also negate the presence of abusive tricycle drivers, who have reportedly been overcharging the passengers. He said they are looking into allegations that tricycle drivers are charging P100 as fare from the Lamberto Macias Sports Complex to the airport yesterday.

The Dumaguete Traffic Management Office has summoned presidents of tricycle associations in the City and warned them against taking advantage of the athletes and delegates to the one week sports competition in Dumaguete and Negros Oriental.

TMO chief Danny Atillo said drivers found overcharging their passengers will be fined and their permits cancelled.*JG
