Vicente burial May 29

The Diocese of Dumaguete said the funeral mass and interment of the late Msgr. Bienvenido Antonio Escalambre Vicente will be on May 29, at the St. Catherine of Alexandria Cathedral in Dumaguete City.

Msgr. Gamaliel Tulabing, Diocesan administrator, will be the main celebrant, while Msgr. Larry Catubig will deliver the homily during the concelebrated mass to be attended by members of the Dumaguete clergy at 2 p.m. on Tuesday. Interment will follow at the Dumaguete Memorial Park.

Vicente passed away Monday at the Holy Child Hospital in Dumaguete City due to a lingering ailment. He was 77.

Born in Bayawan City, Negros Oriental, on December 11, 1934 to the late Juan Vicente and Trinidad Escalambre, he was ordained to the priesthood on June 17, 1966 in Logroño, Spain.

He served as a Diocesan priest for several years in various capacities, mostly in Negros Oriental, like as a parish priest of Basay (Aug. 1971-1976); of Lazi, Siquijor (starting April 28, 1976); parish priest of Bais City, (June 22, 1984 onwards); of Sta. Catalina, (December 10, 1988 onwards); Confessor-AR Sisters, Bayawan, (January 08, 1992); priest of Kalumboyan, Bayawan City, (June 1992); chaplain, Manalongon in Sta. Catalina, (June 18, 1997); and as resident priest of Bayawan from March 26, 2002 onwards.

On October 19, 1981, Vicente was awarded with the title Papal Chamberlain, the Informationis Causa released by the Diocese of Dumaguete said.

His body now lies in state at the Jubilee Hall of the St. Catherine of Alexandria Cathedral Compound.*JFP
