Santacruzan parade,
dance contest today
BY JUANCHO GALLARDE

Five barangays will compete in the Santacruzan parade and showdown at the city quadrangle in Dumaguete today, with a special participation of the Pintaflores Festival of San Carlos City, grand champion of the 2012 Panaad sa Negros Festival.

Expected to join in the parade and street dancing competition that will feature barangays Bunao, Motong, Mangnao, Piai, and Poblacion 7, are artists from Manila on board two floats, former Las Piñas Rep. Cynthia Villar, and Senator Peter Alan Cayetano, City Tourism officer Woodrow Maquiling Jr. said.

A Yamaha motorcycle will be raffled off to the audience during the showdown, Maquiling added. There will also be the Kapuso Night celebration with 13 talents at the Quezon Park, the biggest number of show business personalities coming over to Dumaguete in one batch, he said.

He also clarified that the P200,000 allotted by the city will be for the fare and accommodation of all the talents, unlike in previous years when the same amount was only for two or three showbiz personalities.

Meanwhile, a Santacruzan kayaks festival is scheduled tomorrow at the seashore near the Rizal Boulevard that will be participated in by fishermen.

A festival of lights will also be conducted with the theme “Suga sa Panaghiusa”, where 700 lanterns will be set up the whole stretch of the boulevard.

Maquiling said the lanterns are sponsored by businessmen, and the festival of lights was conceptualized by Mayor Manuel Sagarbarria to emphasize unity in addressing challenging times ahead.*JG
