2 farmers convicted for arson

A farmer and former soldier were sentenced to six to ten years imprisonment yesterday for arson.

Bacolod Regional Trial Court Judge George Patriarca of Branch 46  found farmer  Generoso Buenafe and retired soldier and farmer Romeo Frayco   guilty of a complaint filed by Espiridion Montero.

Montero charged the two for setting his 6-hectare farm on fire on March 6, 1998.

Patriarca ordered them to pay P100,000 in actual damage to the farm.

Buenafe, in an interview over ABS-CBN, claimed the land he was accused of setting on fire was his and had been land-grabbed.*
