Cops probe slaying
of ‘police character’

BY JUDY F. PARTLOW

The Sibulan Police Office is facing a blank wall on the motive and identities of the three men who shot dead a known police character in the town at around 10 p.m. Tuesday.

Sibulan police chief, Senior Insp. Rodrigo Tubog, identified the fatality as Raymund Sacam, of legal age, and a resident of Magatas, Sibulan.

The police said Sacam had several criminal cases filed against him, one of them for frustrated murder, that was dismissed later. He was tagged a “police character” for his involvement in a variety of crimes, particularly, robbery, said Tubog, who declined to comment on the possibility that vigilantes had perpetrated the crime.

Initial investigation showed that Sacam was with a certain Julien Diputado on a motorcycle driven by a certain “Jerome”, at the national highway in Sibulan when three men on board another motorcycle, drove up to them and opened fire.

Witnesses said the suspects were wearing ball caps to conceal their faces, Tubog said.

Sacam was rushed to the Negros Oriental Provincial Hospital but was declared dead on arrival. Diputado was hit in her buttocks but could not give the police further information on the incident, while it was not known what happened to “Jerome”, Tubog added.

Policemen recovered eight spent shells of .45 caliber pistol at the crime scene, and impounded the motorcycle of the victims.*JFP
