Commendation eyed for cops
in arrest of most wanted man

Station 3 policemen of Bacolod City will be recommended for awards for their arrest of the most wanted personality in the city Sunday.

Bacolod Police Office director, Senior Supt. Ricardo de la Paz, yesterday said he will recommend to the Police Regional Office 6 that policemen, who arrested Ariel de la Cruz of Purok Magti-ayon in Brgy. 10, Bacolod, are commended.

He added the police are checking if de la Cruz, who hid in Valladolid town and Talisay City, Negros Occidental, has other pending arrest warrants.

Station 3 cops were conducting hot pursuit operation against a jeepney driver, who shot dead his colleague at the Northbound Terminal at about 8:15 a.m. Sunday, when they were informed that a man ran towards the sugarcane plantation behind the terminal.

Senior Insp. Conrado Rances, Station 3 chief, said that when policemen gave chase, the man, who was later identified as de la Cruz, aimed his firearm at them, prompting Police Officer 1 Richard Dema-ala to shoot him in the left leg.

De la Cruz, who is now confined at the Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital, has arrest warrants for frustrated homicide with rape and murder, issued by Regional Trial Court Branch 51 Judge Anita Chua, police records show.

Chua set de la Cruz’s bail at P120,000 for the attempted homicide with rape charges, and denied him bail in the murder raps, police records also show.

He is tagged in the fatal shooting of Joshua Lopez, 16, of Doña Juliana Subdivision in Brgy. Taculing, Bacolod, and in the raping and attempted killing of Lopez’s girlfriend at the Bacolod Reclamation area on November 20, 2011.*APN

Jail visitor arrested
for ‘shabu’ – police

A man visiting his friend at the lockup cell of Police Station 6 in Brgy. Taculing, Bacolod City, ended up behind bars himself after he was caught in possession of suspected shabu at about 1:30 a.m. yesterday.

Station 6 commander, Chief Insp. Noel Polines, identified the one arrested as Archel Poblador, 32, of Luzuriaga-Sta. Ana streets, Brgy. 31, Bacolod.

Polines said Poblador sneaked into the police station and directly went to the detention cell to visit his friend, Jowar Elbanbuena, who was arrested in a buy-bust operation of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency last month.

Polines added that when Senior Police Officer 1 Jeany Arellano and Police Officer 3 Rodney Domingo confronted Poblador, he told them he brought Elbanbuena medicines for toothache, but he failed to present them.

Policemen frisked Poblador and seized from him a black pouch that contained a small sachet of suspected shabu, 15 empty plastic sachets, an improvised bamboo clip and a disposable lighter, Polines said.

Charges for possession of illegal drugs and paraphernalia are being readied against Poblador, the police said.*APN
