NOPSSCEA MEN’S BASKETBALL
Jury still deliberating
on UNO-R petition

The Jury of Appeals created by the Negros Occidental Private Schools Sports Cultural Educational Association to discuss the petition filed by University of Negros Occidental-Recoletos on the Game 2 forfeiture in men’s basketball, has yet to come out with its decision.

In a statement released to the media, the NOPSSCEA named not only three but seven members of the jury. They are: Edwin Madlangbayan, Roger Banzuela, Rosario de Guzman, Sarah Ortega, Nilda Monge, Crispina Diego, and Ma. Del Pilar Limas.

Limas told the DAILY STAR Monday that she had begged off from joining the jury due to prior commitments, while de Guzman said she was not able to attend the meeting as she already had an appointment with the Silay Institute staff members.

Banzuela said he was not at the first meeting of the jury, set on Oct. 5, as he was finalizing the details for the 2012 Sandugo-UniGames, while Monge cited a conflict in her schedule as prinicipal of the Bacolod Tay Tung High School.

Both Banzuela and Monge said they have not received any follow-up communication from NOPSSCEA as to the next schedule of the meeting of members of the jury.

Banzuela, former Sports Committee chairman of the NOPSSCEA, said he accepted the invitation to sit in the jury as he wanted to help resolve the problem.

He said they have to refer their decision to the NOPSSCEA handbook and decide once and for all on the petition filed by UNO-R.

Meanwhile, in the press release, NOPSSCEA instructed the jury to meet and make recommendations at the soonest possible time to UNO-R’s petition.

Based on the PCCL format, the NOPSSCEA champion will represent Negros Occidental in the tournament against the champions from Negros Oriental, Bohol, Ormoc, Cebu, and Iloilo.

Although declared as champion by tournament commissioner Renato Bravo, officials from the West Negros University Mustangs did not confirm whether they will play at the PCCL starting this weekend.*NAB
