NHA sets P24M
for relocation

BY CHRYSEE SAMILLANO

The National Housing Authority will provide P24 million to the City of Bacolod for the development of the city's relocation site in Barangay Vista Alegre, Bacolod Councilor Caesar Distrito said yesterday.

Distrito, chairman of the Sanggunaing Panlungsod Committee on Laws, Ordinances and Good Government, said that during the last session of the council, the NHA said that half of the P24 million will be considered as a grant, while the other half will be a soft loan, payable in six years, without interest.

Present during the session were Josephine Segundino, head of Bacolod Housing Authority, and Felix Silva, who also appeared to explain further the Memorandum of Agreement being presented by Distrito, that is required before the release of the assistance.

The SP also approved the request of Mayor Evelio Leonardia for authority to sign the MOA with the NHA during the session.

The MOA stipulates that the NHA will provide financial and technical assistance for the development of Bacolod City Relocation Site 2, Phase 4-A located in Brgy. Vista Alegre.

Based on the contract, the project will cover the development of 9.5967 hectares of the 22.1791 hectares property in Brgy. Vista Alegre which includes the site preparation, road and drainage works, survey and lot titling, riprapping works, installation of power and water facilities and construction of double barrel box culverts at the main road right of way and this will generate a total of 833 serviced lots.

Distrito said the agreement, as requested by the Mayor, is the first step before the release of the P24M assistance.

The project is primarily intended to provide housing assistance to families residing in danger areas, those with Court Orders for eviction, those affected by the infrastructure projects of the city and other urban poor families who qualify for relocation and resettlement assistance.

The contract also provide that the city will recover the cost of land and land development from the beneficiaries under the terms and conditions to be prescribed by the SP.

The proceeds from the disposition of home lots will be set aside in a Trust Fund under the account of the relocation site that will be utilized for the maintenance and improvement of the project or for the acquisition and development of other housing projects to be undertaken by the city.*CGS
