RTWPB grants P5 wage
hike for workers
BY MARICAR ARANAS

The Regional Tripartite Wages and Productivity Board recently approved the P5 salary increase for employees in three provinces in Central Visayas.

To benefit from the wage hike are employees in the provinces of Negros Oriental, Bohol and Siquijor, while those from Cebu will receive P9 increase under RTWPB Wage Order 13. Negros Oriental Provincial Board Member Melimore Saycon said the wage adjustment will increase to P220 the daily minimum wage in the province.

Saycon added the wage hike came after the RTWPB found out that at least 80 percent of the companies in Negros Oriental, Bohol and Siquijor are paying their employees below the minimum wage.

He said some of these companies have not even complied yet with Wage Orders 10,11 and 12.

Saycon, a member of the Executive Committee of the Trade Union Congress of the Philippines, said some establishments are paying their workers only P90 a day, but the workers are reluctant to file a complaint for fear of losing their jobs.*MA
