Terra Dolce/Jollibee 1990-92 cruised to a 79-54 win over Waterfull/Celcor 1993-95, while Legends (89 and earlier) with Batch 2009 posted a 73-63 victory over Raga Raga Inc. 2003-05, as competition in the 5th SJI Alumni Basketball Friendship Cup gets going at the Msgr. John B. Liu Activities Center, recently.

Terra Dolce/ Jollibee, bridesmaid in the tournament for the last three years, started out on a bright note as Peewee Demonteverde keyed a second quarter breakaway with 13 points, as teammate Oliver Manaloto added six points to post a 45-27 lead at the break after a slim 20-18 advantage in the opening quarter.

The lead ballooned to 65-40 as eight players scored for Jollibee in the succeeding minutes.

Demonteverde paced Terra Dolce with 17 points, while Richard Co scored 16, Manaloto delivered 15, Dominic Ciocon and Glenn Ortaliz picked up eight points each.

Michael Ang, Julius Teruel and Vincent Javelosa scored 13 points each for Waterfull/Celcor, but lack the offensive support from their other teammates.

In the second game, Kevin Daniel Ramos scored 31 points and Wilson Gamboa Jr. added 13 to give the Legends/2009 the victory in its first outing.

Ramos scored 15 first half points to put the Legends/2009 on top at the break at 33-24.

Both teams had the same third quarter output as the Legends/2009 continued to keep Raga Raga at bay.

Marco Ongsingco's inside incursion netted him 12 points, while teammate Michael Sian scored five points as they made a strong challenge to the Legends as the lead was sliced to as low as six points.

Timely baskets from Ramos, on several assists from playmaker Richard Uy bailed the Legends out of trouble.

The Legends also got support from Richie Ang, who contributed 8 points, EJ Go and Uy had 6 points each.

Marco Ongsingco paced Raga Raga with 18 points, Nonato shot 9, Michael Sian made 8 points, Mark Vasquez added 7, and Carlo Ongsingco chipped in 6 points.*with a report from Stephen Tan
