in SJI Alumni basketball tilt

Terra Dolce/Jollibee 1990-92 cruised to a 79-54 win over Waterfull/Celcor 1993-95, while Legends (89 and earlier) with Batch 2009 posted a 73-63 victory over Raga Raga Inc. 2003-05, as competition in the 5th SJI Alumni Basketball Friendship Cup gets going at the Msgr. John B. Liu Activities Center, recently.

Terra Dolce/ Jollibee, bridesmaid in the tournament for the last three years, started out on a bright note as Peewee Demonteverde keyed a second quarter breakaway with 13 points, as teammate Oliver Manaloto added six points to post a 45-27 lead at the break after a slim 20-18 advantage in the opening quarter.

The lead ballooned to 65-40 as eight players scored for Jollibee in the succeeding minutes.

Tchoukball boosts city tourism

Bacolod City Tourism Council chairman and former Bacolod Rep. John Orola Jr. said the 5 th Asia Pacific Tchoukball Championships to be held in Bacolod City starting tomorrow up to Sunday is part of the sports tourism program of the city in cooperation with the Negros Occidental Government.

Orola said about 300 delegates are expected from from Singapore, Malaysia, China, Indonesia, United Arab Emirates, Korea, Pakistan, and Myanmar.

The opening of the 5 th Asia Pacific Tchoukball Championships will be at 1 p.m. tomorrow at the West Negros University.

NTU-Tigers girls' team
wins 5 th straight crown

For the fifth straight year, the Negros Taekwondo Union-Tigers grade school girls' team brings home the championship from the annual SMART National Taekwondo Championships held July 28 – 29 in Makati City .

Mentored by nine-time best coach awardee Jim Jim Chua, the young jins from Bacolod City continued the tradition of besting other talents from different areas in the country to emerge as champion in their category.

This year's champion team from NTU-Tigers is composed of Ysabel Bermejo, Via Veronica Trocio, Rannie Rose Princess Dedoroy, Crytal Pauline Reyes, Stephanie Alexandra Marie Arrieta and Ashley Alarcon. Dedoroy also bagged the best player award in her division.
