Search resumes
for 5 fishermen
BY ADRIAN NEMES III

Search and retrieval operations for the five fishermen reported missing in Cauayan and Hinigaran towns and in Victorias City, Negros Occidental Saturday and Monday resumed yesterday.

Philippine Coast Guard-Bacolod head, Lt. Commander Dominador Senador said they hope to find Johnny Tupiz, “alias Panoy”, 33 and Roel Tupiz, “alias Bong-Bong”, 32 of Brgy. Ginhulngan, Cuayan, Jack Meniado, 50 of Brgy. Daan, Victorias and the two unidentified fishermen in Hinigaran alive.

The Tupizes were reported missing Sunday when they failed to come home after they went fishing. Meniado has also been missing since his motorized boat capsized Saturday, while the two unidentified fishermen were seen floating near the coastline of Brgy. Tagda Monday.

Senador said the missing fishermen could be in one of the islands near northern Negros Occidental as the trajectory movement of the wind is toward that portion.

Senador said they have alerted the officials and residents of the coastal barangays to report to the nearest police station or the PCG detachments if the missing fishermen are seen in their area.

Meanwhile, the trips of the sea vessels in the seaports of Negros Occidental returned normal yesterday, Senador said.

On Monday, trips of sea vessels from Pulupandan town to Guimaras island, Victorias City to Ajuy town in Iloilo and Sagay City port to Bantayan Island in Cebu and at the Bacolod Real Estate Development Corporation port were cancelled due to bad weather.*APN
