500 e-tricycles
to arrive in Bais

BY JUANCHO GALLARDE

Bais City in Negros Oriental will receive 500 electric tricycles from the Department of Energy, Mayor Karen Villanueva said yesterday.

With less fuel consumption and expenses, she said, the e-Trike fare will also have to be adjusted. This means that the program benefits not only the e-Trike operator, but also the passenger and, most of all, the environment.

She said the e-Trikes are not dole-outs but rent-to-own units.

E-Trikes need to charge their batteries and this could be done at gasoline stations, Villanueva said.

She said the DOE has come up with a project design that will be responsive and will complement the needs and terrain of each local government unit.

The program is funded by the World Bank through a loan package to DOE.

Villanueva said the project will be slowly implemented in order not to shock the local economy and adversely affect the local transportation sector.*JG
