Dawn masses start,
WV police watch up
BY ADRIAN NEMES III

Policemen in the Western Visayas are on alert to ensure the safety of the public when dawn masses for the Yuletide season begin tomorrow, Police Regional Office-6 Director, Chief Supt. Agrimero Cruz, said in an interview in Bacolod City yesterday.

Cruz warned Chruchgoers to be more cautious about their security and safety, and avoid wearing jewelry or bringing expensive gadgets.

All police units in the Region have also been ordered by Cruz to review the operational capability of Motorized Anti-Street Crime Operatives and the Police Integrated Patrol System.

Cruz said the implementation of MASCO and PIPS will deter crime incidence through enhanced police operations and police visibility, especially because the volume of commuters, motorists and pedestrians is expected to rise during the long holiday for the celebration of Christmas and New Year.

PRO-6 already anticipates that criminals will operate in Churches, malls, terminals and other areas of convergence, thus police visibility will be increased to reduce street crimes, neutralize motorcycle riding-in-tandem criminals, arrest wanted persons, and prevent the movement of loose guns, he also said

With the intensified police visibility in the region, Cruz said, he expects an immediate response to call for police assistance and other emergencies.

As to the anticipated atrocities by the New People’s Army, especially because their anniversary on December 26 is nearing, Cruz said they are not on heightened alert yet.

However, he advised all police units in Western Visayas not to lower their guards and to set up advanced security posts.*APN
