Baciwa privatization hit
BY LISA GAPAC

The members of the employees’ union of the Bacolod City Water District yesterday expressed their opposition to any form of privatization of water districts in the country at a rally in front of their office at San Juan-Galo streets, Bacolod City.

BACIWA manager Juliana Carbon said their employees are opposed to the move of having joint ventures with the private sector on the reduction of non-revenue water projects.

Carbon said they understand and respect the opinions of their employees and management as well but does not welcome any idea of privatizing the operations of the water district.

She said they have already received two proposals on the reduction of non-revenue water project from two companies, the Manila Water Company Inc. and Maynilad.

BACIWA has created the joint venture and selection committee that evaluates all project proposals, and union members can attend the discussions and deliberations of all projects, she also said.

Carbon also clarified there is no conflict between the management and the employees and they have maintained industrial peace in their workplace. *LTG
