The earthquake that hit Negros Island yesterday also caused water in Minoyan, Murcia, located near the Mt. Kanlaon Volcano to turn chocolate brown, Mucia Mayor Andrew Montelibano said last night.
Montelibano said the source of water of residents of the area are natural springs and the movement of the earth below may have caused thewater to become murky.
The firetrucks of Murcia and EB Magalona with the help of the Amity and Chamber volunteer fire brigades, were delivering water to the Minoyan residents, he said.
Board Member Patrick Lacson said that, according to Minoyan barangay officials, their water had turned black-brown and was not potable nor could it be used for cleaning.
He said Rep. Alfredo Abelardo Benitez (Neg. Occ., 3rd District)was also helping to find a solution to the problem.
Judel Cariño of the Provincial Disaster Management Office said the murky water was caused by earth movement but, hopefully, it will clear up in a couple of days.
He noted that the water level in the sulfur spring at the Mambukal Resort in Murcia had also dropped following the quake.
No volcanic activityat Mt. Kanlaon had been observed after the quake, Carino added.*CPG
