2 wives mourn suicides of
hubbys on Valentine’s

BY ADRIAN NEMES III

Two housewives were mourning instead of celebrating Valentine’s Day yesterday when their husbands committed suicide by hanging themselves in Silay City, Negros Occidental.

Silvia Miranda of Employee Subdivision in Brgy. Mambulac, Silay City found her husband Noli Miranda, 68, a retired employee of the Central Negros Electric Cooperative, hanging from a beam of their ceiling at about 4 a.m.

Noli Miranda, who had been suffering from a kidney ailment, used a nylon cord in strangulating himself, Police Officer 3 Randy Zambra, duty investigator said.

His family told the police that this was his fifth attempt to commit suicide since he was diagnosed to have a kidney illness.

Nancy Guevarra of Brgy. Bagtic, Silay, meanwhile, reported that her husband Reymond Guevarra, 54, a farm laborer, left their house Sunday and failed to return.

Nancy was later informed by relatives that her husband had been found hanging with a rope around his neck from a Santol tree in Hacienda Bagacay, at about 1:30 p.m. by their neighbor, Edwin Rebustes.

She added that her husband could have committed suicide because of too much depression, although she did not elaborated on what his problem was.*APN
