P.5 million lost in robbery
of Dumaguete Cathedral

BY JUANCHO GALLARDE

The Dumaguete Cathedral was burglarized and more than half a million pesos in cash was taken, possibly during the weekend, police said.

The burglary was discovered by the treasurer, Ursula Tayag, upon reporting for duty Monday.

She said the lock on the main door was intact but all the cabinets inside had been forced open.

Initial investigations showed no trace of forced entry, and the police suspect that someone must have a master key.

Tayag said a total of P504,367 could not be accounted for.

Police operatives are working on the burglary incident, the first to occur this year and involving such a large amount of money.*JG
