FOR DISASTER OPERATIONS
BY JUDY F. PARTLOW

Dumaguete City Mayor Manuel Sagarbarria announced yesterday that effective immediately, the city council session hall will become the city government’s official operations command center during disasters.

He announced this as members of the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council met for a post assessment and evaluation, of the city’s experiences in terms of disaster response, relief and rehabilitation after tropical storm “Sendong” that caused major flooding in the province on December 17.

Sagarbarria said the session hall is ideal for the purpose, as it has available logistics and other resources such as radio communications, telephones, standby power generators, Internet and computers.

Aside from city government officials, department heads and representatives of the City Engineer’s Office, the City Social Welfare and Development Office, the City Planning and Development Office, the Environment and Natural Resources Office, among others, were present.

Also present were officials and representatives from the Philippine National Police, the Bureau of Fire Protection and the Philippine Coast Guard, as well as barangay officials and civilians representing the private sector.*JFP
