The most number of cases came from Dumaguete City with 162; Bayawan City, 36; Tanjay City, 17; Guihulngan, nine; and seven cases each from Dauin and Sibulan. The towns of Sta. Catalina and Bacong have six dengue cases each, while Bais City and Pamplona recorded five dengue admissions each.

BY JUDY F. PARTLOW

Another lot for a housing project for families affected by tropical storm “Sendong” will be provided by the Dumaguete City government.

Mayor Manuel Sagarbarria made the assurance during the formal turnover of the first 12 housing units at the Caritas Village Shelter Project in Barangay Bajumpandan. The project is spearheaded by the Diocese of Dumaguete and its Social Action Center team, in cooperation with the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines-National Secretariat for Social Action and Caritas.

The city government donated the 5,000 square-meter lot in Bajumpandan to house 58 of the total 150 units to be funded by the CBCP-NASSA.

Permit for minors
travelling locally pushed

BY RENE GENOVE

The Negros Oriental Provincial Inter-Agency Council Against Trafficking decided to pass a resolution requiring minors travelling with or without an adult even within the country to first secure a clearance from the barangay and the local social welfare office.

In a meeting with PIACAT, coordinator Romualdo Señeres of the Visayan Forum said this concern is important due to the cases of minors who are believed victims of illegal recruitment in Negros Oriental, its press release said.

The Department of Labor and Employment intercepted over 300 sugar migratory workers late last year from Negros Oriental, including 40 suspected minors, who were illegally recruited and bound for Tarlac province.
