‘LGUs must start own
organic schemes’

A three-day workshop held recently at May’s Organic Garden, in Bacolod City where Armigenia Benedicto, provincial focal person on organic agriculture, said that Local Government Units have to start their local programs on organic agriculture and have to make proposals for approval and funding.

The training focused on the development of organic agriculture plan of LGUS, salient provisions of the provincial ordinance on organic agriculture and the National Organic Agriculture Program, Benedicto said.

She said the province is encouraging LGUs to start their agriculture plans to start the implementation of the Republic Act 10068 or the Organic Agriculture Act of 2010.

Representatives in the workshop came from the cities of San Carlos, Silay, Sipalay, Talisay, Bago, Himamaylan, Cadiz, Kabankalan, Sagay, Victorias, La Carlota, and the towns of Binalbagan, Calatrava, Candoni, Cauayan, EB Magalona, San Enrique, Hinigaran, Ilog, Isabela, La Castellana, Manapla, Moises Padilla, Murcia, Pontevedra, Pulupandan, Don Salvador Benedicto, San Enrique.*LTG
