Theft at Capitol
BY GILBERT BAYORAN

A Negros Occidental government employee assigned at the Bids and Awards Committee office, recently lost P4,500 in cash, that was stolen from a steel cabinet at Provincial Administration Center in Bacolod City.

Provincial Legal Officer Jose Ma. Valencia has ordered Lt. Dionesio Silva to investigate the case.

In 2010, unidentified suspects also stole a box of dental medicines valued at P147,696 at the PAC, while P200,000 worth of motor oil was also taken by unidentified suspects at the Provincial Engineer’s Office in 2007, Capitol records show.

Valencia said Silva, the security chief of the Provincial Capitol, should strengthen his security, to prevent such incident from happening again.

He also said the theft of the cash at the BAC office may be an “inside job”, as the suspect was privy to its location.

A laptop computer and a digital camera were stolen from the Public Information Office of the Capitol last year, and it was recorded by a closed-circuit television surveillance camera.

Since the identity of the suspect in the theft of dental medicines was not established in 2010, Valencia said its custodian was ordered to pay for them.*GPB
