ex-chief justice

Silliman University will confer on former Supreme Court Chief Justice Reynato Puno the degree of Doctor of Laws, honoris causa, in tomorrow’s 99th commencement exercises at its gymnasium in Dumaguete City, a press release from the school said.

Puno, the commencement speaker of this year’s graduating class of 974, will be honored for being a person of “high competence, untarnished character, and unflinching Christian faith, making him a model citizen and Filipino”, the press release added.

An honorary degree is the highest form of academic recognition accorded an individual of national and international stature by the University. A Doctor of Laws is given for demonstrated exceptional achievement in the pursuit of social order and development, the press release said, adding that Puno has consistently proven the value of integrity and solid moral convictions in the practice of the legal profession and the administration of justice, the press release added.*
