Valencia aid to
‘Sendong’ victims

BY JUDY F. PARTLOW & MARICAR ARANAS

Financial assistance  and rice packs were  given yesterday to  213 victims of tropical storm “Sendong” in Valencia, Negros Oriental.

Those whose  houses were destroyed, received P10,000  each, while those with damaged houses got P5,000.

Each  victim also received five kilos of rice from the municipal government.

The beneficiaries came from barangays Apulong, Lunga, West Balabag, Calayugan, Puhagan, Sagbang, Pulangbato, Cambucad, Balili, Malaunay, Malabo, Caidiocan, Palinpinon and Balugo.

They were identified, based on reports and validation of partially and totally damaged houses, following heavy flooding brought by “Sendong” December 17, 2011.

Mayor Enrique Gonzalez Jr. said half of the financial aid  came from the provincial government, the Energy Development Corporation, and donations from other local government units, while the other half was shouldered by the Valencia.

The cash assistance will help the victims rebuild their houses and recover from their losses, he added.*JFP/MA
