2 bomb-sniffing dogs
acquired at P600,000

BY JUANCHO GALLARDE

The provincial government of Negros Oriental will turn over  two bomb-sniffing dogs to the Philippine National Police tomorrow as part of its commitment to maintain peace in the province.

The K-9 dogs, a Belgian Malinois and a Labrador, were acquired by the province at P300,000 each, and part of their contract is for the supplier to provide dog food for one year.

The acquisition of the bomb-sniffing dogs is part of the life-saving equipment requested by the PNP from the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council.

Gov. Roel Degamo, who chairs the PDRRMC, said the other requests include a bomb x-ray, bomb basket, an explosive and ordnance vehicle, and bomb suits. The fund will be sourced from the five percent calamity fund of the province.

Degamo is waiting for the specifications of the request so that the rest of the bomb equipment for the anti-criminality and anti-drugs campaigns of the police, will also be taken into consideration.*JG
