‘Hasten rehab of Sum-ag road’
BY CHRYSEE SAMILLANO

Bacolod Vice Mayor Jude Thaddeus Sayson yesterday called on the contractors of the Sum-ag road rehabilitation project under the Department of Public Works and Highways to fast-track the repair of the road in Brgy. Sum-ag, Bacolod City.

Sayson said the ongoing work on the Araneta highway is causing inconvenience to the residents and commuters travelling to southern Negros.

He noted that the road, which he calls an “abortion road,” becomes muddy when it rains and dusty when the ground is dry.

There have been complaints from the public about the traffic congestion in the area because of the road repair being undertaken by the DPWH.

Sayson clarified that the city has nothing to do with the project which is being implemented by the DPWH that has jurisdiction over national roads.

Bacolod City cannot implement any re-routing plan since there are no alternative routes in Sum-ag, he said.

Earlier, Sayson had said that the contractors of the road repairs, especially at the Araneta highway, should finish the repair of one lane before reconstructing other lanes, in order to minimize traffic congestion.*CGS
