Woman dies in road mishap
BY ADRIAN NEMES III

An unidentified old woman died on the spot when she was sideswiped by a van while crossing the Araneta Highway in Brgy. Pahanocoy, Bacolod City, at about 10:39 p.m. Monday.

As of press time yesterday, no one has claimed the victim’s body yet at the Rolling Hills Memorial Chapels in Brgy. Mandalagan, Senior Police Officer 1 Dennis Perma, Traffic Management Unit chief Investigator, said.

Perma described the victim to be about 70 years old, slim, about four feet to four feet and five inches tall, and was clad in a white shirt and a black skirt with floral designs.

Investigation conducted by Police Officer 2 Orlando Caporal showed that the Kia van driven by Joseph Diamante, 45, of Brgy. Punta Taytay, Bacolod was heading south of Araneta Street in Purok Maninihon when the accident occurred.

Diamante surrendered to Police Station 9 in Brgy. Sum-ag and was later turned over to Police Station 8 in Brgy. Tangub, where he is now detained, police record show.

Caporal, in a television interview, said Diamante may have failed to notice the old woman crossing because the street light in the area had malfunctioned.

He also said a witness claimed that the van was speeding, but Diamante stressed that he was running slowly when the accident happened.

Meanwhile, Perma said no settlement was reached between the family of Dilyno Dulla, 41, of San Dionesio Subdivision, Brgy. Granada and the driver of Kia Sedan, Joseph Brian Naguimbing, 30, also of the same subdivision yesterday.

Dulla’s motorcycle and Naguimbing’s car collided near the intersection of Lacson Street and North Capitol road at about 2 p.m. Sunday. Dulla died later at the Bacolod Adventist Medical Hospital at about 11 p.m.

There have been 47 deaths from traffic accidents in Bacolod City since January, and 22 of them were motorcycle-related, police records show*APN
