Chief of police resigning
for not stopping gambling

BY JUANCHO GALLARDE

The chief of police of Bayawan City, Insp. Teodorico Picardal, yesterday said he will resign from his post for his failure to stop illegal gambling operations in his area.

Picardal signified his intention to PNP deputy provincial director, Supt. Alet Virtucio, but the official letter has not yet reached the provincial command.

Negros Oriental Provincial Police Office director, Senior Supt. Edward Carranza, said the resignation will be considered and he will deploy an OIC police chief for Bayawan.

Carranza said what Picardal is planning to do is an honorable thing.

Virtucio said eradicating the illegal numbers game is a two-way process, and urged his colleagues to just do their job.

He said Picardal finds it difficult to stop the “swertres” operation because it is patronized by the people. He said he is willing to be assigned as OIC of the Bayawan Police.

Chief Supt. Marcelo Garbo, chief of the Police Regional Office Central Visayas, visited Negros Oriental last week and reiterated his order for the total eradication of “swertres” in the province.*JG
