SBP not intervening
in NOPSSCEA row

Regional director Robery Uy of the Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas yesterday expressed hopes that the Negros Occidental Private Schools Sports Cultural and Educational Association settle soon the disagreement over its men’s basketball championship series involving West Negros University and University of Negros Occidental-Recoletos.

The Iloilo City-based Uy, who was in Bacolod City yesterday on a business trip, said he was aware of the issue but stressed that the SBP can not intervene in it.

“It is an internal matter and my office can not intervene. I can only hope that all parties concerned will be able to come up with a win-win solution soon,” Uy said.

Terra Dolce, Shakey’s battle
for SJI alumni basketball title

After leading the tournament in the elimination round, top seed Ceres Pasalubong’s bid for the title fell on the wayside as the team bowed to Shakey’s/New Energy Mkt., 64-57 in the semifinals of the 5th SJI Alumni Basketball Friendship Cup at the Msgr. John B. Liu Activities Center.

Shakey’s/New Energy Mktg. 2008/10/11 will face Terra Dolce/Jollibee 1990/91/92 for the titular showdown tonight, 8 p.m.

It was a roller-coaster ending between Shakey’s and Ceres in the semifinals with Shakey’s on top 58-56 with 1:12 remaining in the game and Alvin Dionela was assessed with two technical fouls to turn the tide for New Energy.
