Ensure cemetery safety,
SP asking city engineer

BY CHRYSEE SAMILLANO

A resolution requesting the Office of the City Engineer to designate someone to ensure the safety of placing additional niches at the Burgos Cemetery in Bacolod City, was approved by the Bacolod Sangguniang Panlungsod Wednesday.

Authored by Councilor Roberto Rojas, the resolution said the Burgos cemetery is already crowded and niches are being stacked higher.

There is a need to determine if it is still safe to continue burying the dead at the Burgos cemetery since it has reached its maximum capacity, it said.

Although it is now full or congested, burials are still going on done at the Burgos cemetery when there is an option to bury at the Handumanan cemetery, the resolution added.

The SP approved a resolution requesting Mayor Evelio Leonardia to request from the Department of Health Regional Office the assignment of physicians at the City Health Office in line with its “Doctors to the Barrio” program.

The resolution said there is an need for more doctors due to the large population of Bacolod City and the present number of doctors at the CHO is cannot accommodate all patients.

It added that the DOH has a program called “Doctors to the Barrio” where it deploys physicians to various areas to provide health care to the residents.

Meanwhile, the SP also approved a resolution requesting the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office, through its chairman Margarita Juico, to provide assorted medicines to the City Health Office of Bacolod City.

The resolution said the PCSO is mandated to provide funds to sustain free health services and augment resources of various institutions providing health care to the general public.

It said the PCSO raises funds for health programs, medical assistance and services.

The resolution also said the Bacolod City Health Office and the Barangay Health Centers lack sufficient supply due to the number of indigents relying on the free medicines being given.
