A sugar forum on the theme “Meeting the Challenge of 2015” is set at the Planta Centro Hotel in Bacolod City tomorrow morning, Enrique Miguel Lacson, president of the UP Los Baños Alumni Association – Negros Occidental chapter, said yesterday.
The forum, sponsored by the UPLBAA - Negros Occidental Chapter, is being held to update stakeholders on the efforts being undertaken by the government to enable the Philippine sugar industry to survive the lowering of tariffs on imported sugar by 2015, Lacson said.
“We are urging industry stakeholders to attend,” he said.
Rep. Alfredo Abelardo Benitez (Neg. Occ., 3rd District) will discuss legislative measures being undertaken to meet the challenge of 2015, while Sugar Regulatory Administration head Ma. Regina Bautista-Martin will talk about measures being undertaken by the SRA to meet the challenge of 2015, Lacson said.
Negros Occidental Gov. Alfredo Marañon Jr. is also expected to deliver a message, while Felixberto Monasterio, executive director of the Sugar Master Plan Foundation Inc., will discuss “The Sugar Master Plan: How it addresses the Challenge of 2015.”*CPG
