A manifesto of support was signed by 51 barangay captains and 55 Sangguniang Kabataan chairmen in Bacolod City expressing their trust and confidence in the leadership of Mayor Evelio Leonardia, and urging him to continue serving the people of the city by running for congressman.

The manifesto said that, considering the wealth of experience and track record that Leonardia has achieved, it would be for the best interest of the city if he is given the opportunity to serve in another position of higher responsibility, referring to the position of congressman.

It said that, under the leadership of Leonardia, Bacolod has achieved unprecedented economic growth and development, and was catapulted to become one of the premier cities of the country.moremoremore

Guidelines for filing of COCs out

“Don’t wait for the deadline, file your Certificates of Candidacy early,” Negros OccidentalProvincial Elections Supervisor Jessie Suarez yesterday urged those planning to run for public office in 2013.

Suarez issued the appeal with the COMELEC release of Resolution No. 9518 setting theguidelines for the filing of COCs, and nomination and acceptance of official candidates of registered political parties or coalition of political parties in connection with the May 13, 2013 automated elections.

COCs can be filed on any day from October 1, to 5, during office hours from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., the resolution promulgatedTuesday states.moremoremore

PNP: Cop shot
himself  accidentally

A policeman believed to have accidentally shot himself died at about 6:30 a.m. yesterday at his compound in Brgy. Alijis, Bacolod City.

Killed was Senior Police Officer 1 Fernando De Vera, 52, of Purok Puentebella, Brgy. Alijis, Station 7 commander, Chief Insp. Levy Pangue, said.

 De Vera who sustained  a gunshot wound in his mouth was rushed to the Bacolod Adventist Medical Center where he was declared dead on arrival, Pangue said.
