PNP one-strike-policy  in WV
applicable to other crimes, too

BY GILBERT BAYORAN

The one-strike-policy of the Philippine National Police for police commanders in Western Visayas, is applicable not only to illegal gambling, but also to high-profile crimes, illegal logging and other illegal activities.

Chief Supt. Agrimero Cruz, regional police director of Western Visayas, yesterday reiterated that the one-strike policy still stands, andit mustserve as a challenge to field commanders to intensify their law enforcement operations.

Under the policy, a station chief may be relieved if a higher police unit confirms the existence of illegal gambling activities in his area.Aside from the police chief, a provincial police director may also be relieved if three or more station chiefs under his command have been relieved.

Eight police chiefs in Region 6 were relieved last year, under the one- strike policy of the PNP, police records show.

Cruz, however, clarified that action against erring field commander will be based on the result of the investigations.*GPB
